Creation of my magazine - Step 1

Firstly to create my magazine I used the software InDesign. I have had past experience of using this software in AS when creating my pop music magazine front cover, contents page and double page spread. I started off by choosing the background of the magazine cover. When researching into real media examples such as Total Film they used dark blacks and greys when advertising a horror film to represent the dark nature of the films and the concept of death. I chose to use a dark grey and black background which contrasted well with the colour scheme of my main title, the reason I also chose to use a dark background was because I wanted the blood on the actresses face and the red on the text to be bold and stand out from the rest of the text on the page. I called my magazine 'CUT FILMS' with inspiration from Total Films magazine and also that during the filming process the filmmaker will shout 'cut!' to end a scene. During the process of designing my magazine cover I wanted the genre of the magazine to be constantly horror so therefore this is why the slogan which is situated at the top of the page above the main title is 'guts, gore and gossip galore' to promote the horror genre film magazine.

For my main image of my magazine front cover I originally took a photograph of a long shot of the actress who played the police officer in my film trailer however after looking at examples of film magazines it became apparent that the magazines used pictures of the characters as the main image instead of the actress or actor who played that character, after conducting the research I changed the image on my magazine front cover from the actress to the police officer with the Chelsea smile. The medium close up of the police officer suited more to the horror genre and using Photoshop I used my creativity skills to remove the background of the image to show the grey and black background making the character bolder on the page due to the background being basic and not complicated and irrelevant.

I placed the splash of the film title and the words 'exclusive interview' across the chest area of the main image of the police officer to make sure that I didn't block the make up on the actress due to this being eye catching to the target audience and would probably be a key feature on the page to sell and promote the magazine. I used the same font and colour scheme for the main title to keep it consistent across my three final products of my magazine cover, poster and film trailer.
